Any tips on getting decent motion blur to show speed using my finepix 2800z without manual override or spot-editing? I can get it in generally low light situations but not enough to control the effect to any great extent.

Do you want foreground or background to blur? If the latter, then you can use a panning technique.

I was able to get this panned shot with my point-and-shoot on auto-everything. It is cropped way in--I'm not that good a shot!

You could use a neutral density (ND) filter to reduce the available light. This will force a slower shutter speed.

A cheap ND filter are your sunglasses, or perhaps a couple of pairs in front of each other. Combining this with relatively low light might slow the shutter down enough (although I don't know the slowest shutter for your camera specifically).

Great advice. I've heard of the Nd filter technique but never the sunglasses. Thanks for the tip.

I often use my polarized sunglasses as an impromptu filter.
