I was just informed that my photo for the off-center challenge was DQ'd and that they had informed me about the requests from many of the voters on the 18th. I received nothing from them until today, and I check my email daily. Is there somewhere that one is supposed to look for your dq requests? It was my highest scoring photo in a while and I don't want this to happen again.
When we get a DQ request, if it's obvious, such as text in border or something, it is DQed. If it is not, proof is requested by email. Technically, I think they give either 24 or 48 hours to respond. Proof was requested on your image on the 18th, to wich we had no response.
I never received the email on the 18th. There is a slight chance that I deleted it since I get a lot of junk mail, esp. if it somehow went into my bulk box. I doubt it, but I don't want to say 100% that it wasn't somehow my fault. Well, either way, I guess rules are rules, and time limits are time limits, and I'll have to live with it. You did send it to the email listed in my profile, Jestiano2002@yahoo.com yes? and not some other email I might have put in when I signed up, possibly ano218@notme.com? I'm just very frustrated since it was on route to being my third highest yet and the only comments I had gotten about it being possibly illegal were about the border, which I am fairly certain isn't illegal anymore, but might have been in the past. PS. Why do you have to entirely delete the photo from the database? I would have liked to keep the 30+ helpful comments. Can't you just take it out of the competition?

Sonifo, I certainly wasn't the one to DQ yours and I can't really see why anyone would. Wish I was as lucky as you! I'm guessing DQ's were requested on mine because people were confused about the updated border rules (I tilted my border to go nicely with the image), or maybe people thought that I edited the photo to make me look like a midget when reality I was on my knees..lol. So much for illusions! I think I'm going to upload the photo again to my portfolio so people can still see it and hopefully find out who the DQ requests were from and why.
My self portrait was recomended for DQ-ing I had 48 hrs to produce the original and the steps I use to create the entry. Here is what I got in the mail.
Your image, `Title of image was here`, has been recommended for diqualification. Please send us your original file (with EXIF) and the steps you used to create your submitted version. If we do not hear back from you within 48 hours, we will go forward with the disqualification.
perhaps we should be able to submit out original EXIF and explanation of editing steps when we are submitting the original so that if a DQ request comes the administrators already have it. This would be helpful in situations like this when I am really pretty sure I never got the email on the 18th, and for situations when someone is away during the week and can't check their email but thinks they will get dq requests on their image for whatever reason.
I have just forwarded you the same e-mail that was sent to you on the 18th. Please check your yahoo account that you have set as your e-mail for this site.

That's the "Request an Admin Note" line you see as soon as voting starts. Or you could just email them, I'm sure they'd be receptive.

You already can. you can get an "admin note". Just go to your own picture after the challenge begins, click the admin note link, and follow the instructions.

Thanks everyone. I found out what happened. The email went to my bulk box which gets tons of junk mail everyday so I didn't see it and just deleted the whole bunch all together like i usually do. Nothing else I get from important people, or DPC, goes to my bulk. I believe it was because the message was also carbon copied to another recepient. I will make sure to check my bulk box more carefully in the future. Please let me know if my other submission this week also received a request that I deleted! Glad to know about the administrative note option. I will do that in the future regardless. Sorry for being an idiot.
Sorry to hear about your DQ. FWIW I thought ---------------(that was the title right?)was one of the coolest in the competition. I almost entered my Home Sweet Home done that way, with the picture skewed. My wife (the great advisor) talked me out of it (hope that's not illegal...lol). I'm interested in knowing how it could be deemed illegal. I know it's a moot point but did you ask to have your original file/EXIF examined to find grounds for DQ (I realize that you missed the deadline)? Goodluck in the other challenges :)

There was probably nothing illegal about the photo. The problem was that a request for proof was sent and no response was received from the photographer. Under those circumstances, the photos are traditionally disqualified from the competition.

Jason, sorry to see that entry go - it was very creative. I had a submission DQ'ed for the same reason - didn't catch the email. Had another DQ inquire this week which was validated. I which there was a way to indicate these things on the DPC web site itself. Jerry
yeah! It's back. Thanks to Drew for letting me submit my EXIF late. Now that a few people know it's mine though, it's going to get lower scores. jk. Thanks guys! BTW I second what jerrft said. It would be nice if that showed up on the picture page as well as the "picture has been validated". Maybe a "request for validation has been submitted." Kick me if this is already in effect!
