A few weeks ago I got a new lens for my D60, its a Tokina 80-400mm zoom lens. I used it to get my magazine cover photo of the surfer.

these are unedited and straight from the camera

click the thumnail to get the 640x480 image, then click that to get a full size pic...

WOW, some of those are really great!! I especially like that sunset and the late in the day pictures of the surfers, the light is beautiful. Seems like a very productive day with your new lens!

thanks, actually the last few surfer pics where it looks as if there is a golden sunset on the water, is actually a reflection of the sunlight off the hotel that is in the back ground, thats just out of view, well you see the peirs holding it up

James,

I've cruised on that ship !!! You have some awesome sunset photographs there my man. Good job!!!

Question; are Tokina lenses less expensive than Canon at equivilent focal lengths? Also, does Tokina incorporate any image stabilization into their lenses? I am beginning to get the DSLR itch and I am wondering if quality lenses options are available that won't break the bank :0)

Very nice shots, brings up a question though:
Has any one had trouble using filters are longer lenses and then getting vignetting?

James,

I see you have used a Sony F707in the past. In your opinion, how does the D60 and F707 stack up as far as picture quality. I am a F717 user and realize that a DSLR can offer added flexibility in lenses, iso settings, etc. I am wondering if there is a reasonable ROI on image quality if one were to move from the Sony to a Canon 10D which is the current souped up version of your D60.
