My self-portrait is on 4.67 at the moment... maybe some would say not too bad, but the 2 comments are very positive, one person says they gave it a 10. I suspect that if a monitor is not callibrated properly, it could look awful. Now, on all the monitors other than mine I've ever looked at photos on, it is impossible to adjust the brightness to show all the shade graduations on the test strip at the bottom. I've not tried 1 monitor that won't look too dark without specialist software to adjust the gamma settings. My windows desktop looks awfull when I have the correct monitor callibration... is windows not designed to work with correctly callibrated settings? Anyway, (because I was guilty of this as well when I first started voting here... it's why my first 2 photos were so washed out) I think that new people here should be forced to tick a box stating that they have correctly callibrated before being allowed to vote! Or at least every new person should be shown an image (perhaps a portrait) which tests in a real-world way whether they can see images correctly or not.
