Yep, coolhar is absolutely correct....and sorry but thatcloudthere is mistaken about the sports photography thing.
I generally use the IS on #2 on my 100-400mm L when shooting fast action, back and forth games, ie. Soccer, Football. I am limited to horizontal shooting, but these are horizontal games, unlike basketball, bmx ect..
The IS does work in low light, but generally, I don't use it in low light.
