canon EOS-D series with an 85mm 1.2 lens and pretty close to them with the ISO way up. or a 50mm 1.0 lens. i have done that before at night and it worked fine.
Is there any way to get good quality concert photos from the back of a hall when its dark?
Use a good, fast telephoto lens. Personally, I use a 70-200 f/2.8 to go with my Canon D60. With your camera, however, you might be better off wringing the ISO way up (remember to turn the colour saturation down at the same time), and give it your best shot. Because your lens is brighter on wide angle than on zoom, try to stick to wide angle. Also beware that you can get in BIG trouble if you get caught taking pictures without having a permit - worst case scenario is getting your camera taken from you and being thrown out of the concert. Both of which is bad news.
