I know many of you will say it's those silly little wooden figure people, but for me, it's a butterfly! Is it just me, or does it seem like almost every other challenge has a butterfly picture in it. Don't get me wrong, I think they are absolutely beautiful bugs, and some of the pictures are just tremendous - but seriously, are they like the universal prop?
Let's see, starting "From the Ground Up", we just love to "Celebrate" their existence, we love their "Complementary Colors II"! They "Personify" the perfect "Greeting Card". We just have so much "Pride" in butterflys. (No wait, that one was just a bug.) :-)
You talking about "props" or "subjects" here? To me, a "prop" is something that plays a supporting role to the subject. So, for example, you could say that a shawl/scarf in headshot portraits is becoming an "overused prop"... Butterflies, on the other hand, are being overused as subjects (according to your perception anyway).
You forget that for those of you who have been in photography a long time, a butterfly or flower, etc. may be boring, but for those of us who are still new to photography, these subjects are still new and fun and beautiful to us. Now, give us a couple years and that may change too....... :) Actually, that's kind of cool. While we lack the knowledge and skill of the more seasoned photographers, for us at least for now EVERYTHING'S new and fresh! Can you remember way back when you still felt that way?
I'm getting sick of those pure white and pure back backgrounds that give us pictures of things, often lit from one side only, floating in space. They're boring, boring, boring.
