You'd be surprised what gets caught. Some PS gurus out there can easily spot stuff. I know I ask for a DQ request when something seems too good to be true. It's my nature to think people cheat and lie, part of the mentality I have at work brought over into my hobby, I guess.
You can always try. It you get caught and it's apparent that cheating was intentional, you will lose lots of respect from many users of this site. And what's so great about winning or doing well if you have to bend the rules or cheat? No satisfaction there.
I find it difficult to believe anyone would intentionally cheat...is a ribbon of value?
I too find it hard to believe that anyone would go through the trouble of editing the exif just to get a virtual ribbon but then I remember there are people that create viruses and hack systems just cause they can. Never doubt the ability of the human mind to find new ways to cheat others even for no particular reason.

I don't do the lying and cheating... some of the travellers I encounter while doing my job do enough of that for everyone. Its quite satisfying to bust 'em. Heh heh!

Okay, I just have one thing to say - HOW could someone take a picture of a giant fork on a wall and do SO MUCH better than the one I took that was - in focus - at night - with no noise? SHEESH!!

Why?
Cuz sometimes I can't figure out how the shot was made, or the only way that comes to mind is by using techniques not allowed in challenges. As a member of the site it's my right to check that entries I see are valid. Got a problem with that? It doesn't happen often, maybe one or two images every second or third challenge.
I never submit DQ requests for images not meeting the challenge.

Well noggin I can't talk for everyone and should point out that I can't vote in those challenges, but if you are referring to Back Porch it is probably the darkness and lack of interest of your image. Sorry
Yes I know it is at night and you did a good job keeping it lit and the candles not blown out and it shows a nice cozy corner of your world that most probably can't ever find time to appreciate. Some just prefer a brighter image like back porch. Back porch also has simplicity on it's side. Few colors and the tones of those colors are very pleasing. The pitch fork has interest in its shape and the fact that it is wittled out of one piece of wood makes it extra interesting.
Had I been able to vote you probably would have gotten a 7 or even 8(see my voting style in my bio) but back porch would have probably gotten 8-9. Not a 10 in my books but still has a lot in it even as simple as it is.
Again sorry your image didn't do as well as you thought (story of my life and is going to continue with the pride challenge since I shot a subject not everyone likes and I will get slammed for it instead of on it's quality), it is a good image but there is always someone better and someone that sees it differently.
