I like the color better because it gives a more peaceful feel to it. It makes me want to park it and relax. The b/w makes me feel like it is a lonely place to be. But that is just my 2 Cents.
Ok, you b/w purists. Maybe the title of the photo confused me. It says "Secret Hideaway". I may have envisioned a little rendezvous place instead of somewhere you'd go to evade capture by the nazis! Maybe it's a guy thing? Still liking the color here. My dos pesos!

But, it depends on what you are trying to portray ... did you want it to feel welcoming? Did you take the photo with an interest in the textures? Did you want it to look like a solemn place? All these things should be considered by the artist :P
I'm not using PhotoShop (so I don't know the commands) but with your black and white conversions, try taking the the colour image and breaking it apart into the RGB (Red, Green and Blue) channels. The three resulting images will look dramatically different than just converting the RGB to black and white, and you'll quickly see the benefit. For some shots using one colour channel will be sufficent. Green, for example, is very good for portraits as it gives a nice skin tone. For more control with individual images, you can combine them back into an RGB image by swapping colour channels...ie, put the Red channel where the Green was, put the Green where the Blue was, and put the Blue where the Red was. The image will look strangely coloured until you convert it to greyscale. I did that in this image For The Line and it worked nicely. DPC legal, too. Burning isn't, however (but it should be...).
