Does Technology lend itself to macro type shots or is the previous challenge carrying over to the technology challenge?

If you look at technology history, particulary electronics, the push is to go smaller. Look at CD's compared to records, IC chips, cell phones even. So I think a macro shot lends itself perfectly to these type of shots.
