Last night I took a few shots of a track meet I helped organise. Was trying out my new VCL-HGD1758 teleconverter. I like it so much I'm going to get the wide-angle as well. Excellent quality. Some fringing, but it's not readily noticeable until you scrutinize. Well worth the tradeoff. Anyways...let me know what you think.
Thanks. The teleconverter is a 1.7x magnifier. The F717's lens is a 190mm equivalent (to 35mm lens) so the 1.7x gives you a 320mm equivalent. At close range it blurs the background nicely. Focus is somewhat of a problem, but I found that getting a lock on the ground where people are about to run by and then panning up and shooting when they cross is a good way to get sharp photos. The continuous mode helps somewhat, though the blackout means you shoot blind for a second or so.
Great photos! I only looked at the first two (dial-up-slow-load) and I'm impressed. Just got my camera and am learning all the features. Is the continuous mode the one that does 16 consecutive shots?

I've had my DSC F717 for about 6 mos now. I have'nt bought any accesories except for the polarisor filter and a neutral density filter. I was very dissapointed because I have not seen any difference.
The thing ran me $197 plus $27 to ship to Canada (all US dollars) from www.provantage.com. They were great to deal with, I'll buy everything I possibly can through them from now on. They have an online order tracker so you can follow your order's progress.
Marjo, I used the 'Burst 3' mode.
Also, the shots with the #65 guy in them towards the bottom (men's mile) was shot with ISO 400 and I was very impressed with the results. It was quite dark durning that race and yet the noise isn't too bad. I'm really happy with the camera thus far.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the F717 can only do 3 consecutive shots, the "3 burst" mode (3 frames at 2 fps). In video though, it does 16 fps (frames per second) at 320x240.
'Burst 3' shoot 3 frames, though I find it's closer to 3 fps than 2. It also has a video mode called 'multi-burst' which does 16 shots in 7.5, 15 or 30 fps and tiles them together into one image. Never tried it.
The shots are great! Did you use digital zoom? Are the others in iso100? Does this converter also help macros? I would love to get closer with my macros.
When I see the quality of shots like this, I am glad I have this camera!
