I was wondering what books have helped some of you in accomplishing some of your photography goals. From begginer to advanced, technical or inspirational....let me know.
X-mas time is here, and I want to make sure my fiancee gives me something I'll use this year ;) ...z
1. "John Hedgecoe's Photography Basics" -- I found it really good. It has a section called Twenty Ways to Improve your Photos, basically discussing different ways of looking at the world. It has other useful ideas. I'd definitely recommend it. 2. "The Joy of Photography" by the Eastman Kodak Company. It's mostly for 35mm photography but I find that 90% of the book can be carried over to digital. Talks about filters, lighting, exposure. A ton of neat tips and tricks. Definitely recommend it too. 3. Last but not least. You camera's owner's manual. It's good to flip through it once in a while. Might have missed some neat functions.
Happy reading and salivating over the great photos.

Photographing the World Around You by Freeman Patterson and Photography and the art of seeing are also very good. Galen Rowell's The Art of Adventure Photography is also interesting.
I'd also suggest you check out the local library. You can take home lots of books for free and then spend your money on more useful stuff like memory or a table-top tripod.
i got a book on how to see creativly, its helped me think about the composition of a photo first rather than point and shoot. Now I just have to apply it so I get better pics.
Im at work now and dont remember the title or the author/photographer of the book.
Another book that complement's Rowell's Adventure book is his Mountain Light book, first published in 1985. That book goes through a lot of his photographs in great detail on how he got the image, a very useful book if you're looking for insights into how one photographer thinks and feels when he makes his photographs
And, another book that i have found recently is John Fielder's Art of Seeing (another book about nature photography). I think both Rowell and Fielder has similar philosophies. Both of these photographers weren't photographers to begin with, they were avid outdoors people that turned into master photographers.
