Commenters are learning too.
I usually respond to one or more of the comments within the image's discussion thread -- you can quote it just like in the forums -- sometimes explaining why something the person didn't like was deliberate. Not to persuade them to like it, but only to help them understand that such "features" may be intentional, so that their future comments will have that context. They may still not like it, but they'll be more inclined to say that (and why), rather than making an off-putting comment about your "mistake."
Plus, once the use of such a technique is explained, they may come to appreciate it after all ...
If I do quote someone's comment, I'll usually send them a thank-you note as a PM, and say that I responded to their comment in the thread. |
