With the other 2 threads going on, there is only one way to settle all the arguing and that is to have a vote/poll on the issue of changing the rules. Rule modifications of this nature should not be forced upon people unless they are allowed to voice their opinion by voting on it.
My suggestions for the poll to have the rules modified are this:
1. Allow a few more limited editing techniques to each challenge (as outlined by JMSETZER)
2. Allow a few more limited editing techniques to a completely separate Open challenge for paid and non paid members
3. Allow a few more limited editing techniques to the Paid members challenge only.
or
4. Have a challenge that is open to all but instead of 1 week to take and submit you photo you have 2 weeks to take and edit your photo according to the new rules.

I'm a paid member and I like things just the way they are if you are going to open up to allow a few ideas suggested then as a paying member I want to be able to use all editing techniques that PSP has available including masking and layering of objects.
Why not just have an occasional "no holds barred" challenge to keep the natives from getting too restless. I could live with that. It's been done before and seems to appease the few that are pushing for more editting, even if just momentarily. Cheers.

I vote for a 3rd weekly/bi-weekly challenge that allows editing. All other challenges should remain the same. That way if you want to edit, you have a challenge to do it with.
While a poll is a good idea, I think the questions so far miss the proposed point.
I'm getting bored being ignored trying to make this point, but one more time.
The idea isn't a free for all editing. It is to produce the most complete photograph (this is very similar to the rules for example on digitalphotocontest, where all of the weird fantasy stuff is constrained to only one 'digitalart' category. All of the other categories have free editing _with_the_intent_of_producing_the_best_photograph_

Ok you are ignoring the fact that in wanting more editing you are discriminating against those who don't have the money to purchase the software that others use? And before you suggest free downloads might I say if you have a site with photoshop or psp that is free and not just a trail version you can't even share it here for anyone who needs it cause of legal issues so again those who don't have it are discriminated against.

That's a very bad argument, OneSweetSin, because the GIMP -- absolutely free -- is recognized as an excellent program. Failure to have a free good editing program is therefore no argument against this proposal.

what editing software are you using now?
I'm using PSP if you think back you sent me a pm and made the thread disappear when I posted a link to programz for psp. But I know of others who want PSP or PS and can't get it cause we can't share it cause the site might get sued was what you told me.

Ever try to download Gimp and install it to Windows XP? I have tried and tried but the program was orginally written for Mac users and does not tell which mirrors you need for each windows operating system only tells you you will need to download various mirrors and which mirror you have to have.

No, I haven't. But I am aware that hundreds of thousands of people have successfully downloaded it and are using it as their prime editing software, so I am sure it is not that hard.

Please excuse my amusement. But as I was considering what you wrote I realized that it came from someone who has a $1000 camera. Surely you can spend a little more to get a program like PS Elements or many others that do plenty of good editing. Many are free as has already been mentioned. I assure you this is not about discrimination. Everyone has to start somewhere and nobody else ought to be held back because of it. You don't even need to do any major editing if you don't want to anyway.
