Life is short...make the time to give plenty of attention to both! :-)
Try including her along with your photography. Shoot her (with the CAMERA hehehe). Discuss ideas and photos with her, take her on shoots and let her help you, whatever, just try and involve her. Could turn into something that actually helps bring you closer. For example, I take my wife and daughter to parks in the area frequently. I take the camera too. We play for awhile, walk for awhile, and I shoot away at the same time!
She will obviously feel neglected when I spend 3-4 hours a day on Photography/internet (after spending 9 hours in the office). But there should be a way out, I am sure.
And last but not least, mount her every so carefully like your mounting your camera to a tripod.
Then switch to motor drive Hehe.
(sorry, the devil made me say that)
Put down the camera and keep her happy. If she's unhappy, you wont be able to concentrate anyway. And if she stays unhappy long enough, you'll have to sell the camera anyway to give her half, along with half of all your other stuff..
Both of you need your creative time and space. However, she's wanting more time with YOU. I say put down the camera and give HER your undivided attention. In return, she will be more than happy to give you time alone with your photography. Both should know and understand that each of you need to be who they are. She may know that. However, she's cring out for help. It's more than just shareing a hobby with one another. That too, is good. But....listen to her, she needs YOU not your camera. God Bless.
My husband often feels that way. But he has baseball and hunting so he knows how it is. To make time together, we often go on outings where I can shoot and he can have fun. We also sometimes sit at the computer together and browse through the challenge entries. A big help is that the computer room is located right in view of the TV room so we are in talking distance. Find her a hobby and move the computer in the room she spends the most time in.
My girlfriend (of going on 4 years) doesn't say anything about that, and we've lived together for almost 2 years now. I think she's just happy I'm not bugging her. When I go out somewhere, I always invite her along, sometimes she comes, sometimes she doesn't. When she doesn't, I think she's just happy to get rid of me for a while. I'm actually quite annoying in person as well as on the internet.
But like was suggested, maybe you should get a second camera for your wife...or *GASP* get yourself a new camera, and the current one can become the wife's -- that's always a win-win situation. ;-)
buy her a camera and suck her into your addiction :)
that's what i did ... same with video games
we're currently on day 5 of Pikmin, i even got her thinking it was her idea to buy the game
mwaaaaahhhh hawwwwww hawwww!!!!!
That is if you can handle the competion. My husband said if I got into photography it'd would be great, prob cause I was always upset he was either out taken pics or spending hours fixing them and on DPC. Now I'm really getting into it and learning I'm pretty sure he doesn't like it.
We have totally diffrent styles of photography, but I think he hates it when people like my pics, and I've realized when he helps me pick which one to use for a challenge it does really bad. My hubby is a great photographer in his style. Unfortunatly I don't think it's helped us that we both take pics. Now we fight over who is gonna use the cam, or the computer. So I guess what I'm trying to get at is, it's great to share an interest in something but make sure your ego isn't too sensitive and get her her own cam if you can afford it.
Good Luck!

That's EXACTLY what I did (and we have a new baby to take care of). Now she occupies her time taking pictures of the baby!!! I must admit though, I do feel a bit guilty spending so much time working on photography "stuff", but I'm hoping to eventually do it for a living. Do the ends justify the means? Not sure, I'll keep you posted!
My wife always said she was rated 3rd in our house - after the TV and the Dog. Now we have no Dog but she still thinks she is 3rd on my list after my camera and DPC. Of course she is way ahead of Dpc in my books...
1) Quit your job.
2) Take up heavy drinking.
3) Spend at least 8 hours a day on internet porn.
4) Spend a minimum of 4 nights a week out with the guys.
5) Leave socks, shoes and underwear exactly where they fall.
Do this for one month.
This should be long enough for your wife to realize how good she had it before. She will be begging you to get a job and take up photography;)
