I like tristan_sideBW_19 the most, mainly due to the eye appearing through the hair...
i like 17 the most. there's something extra 'sharp' to me about that one. i also like the way the necklace hangs in the back, mirrors the neckline, and casts a crisp shadow.

Here's the steps I went through to get to my final image. Outtakes
I'm guessing I scored low because the subject was un-inspiring and the CD thing has probably been done to death (although it was my first ever CD photo). Did I enter the right one? Did I get anything else wrong? With only 6 comments I'm lacking a bit of feedback on this one.
aelith: meese0.jpg is the most interesting to me because it seems to actually have something going on. the others seem to be missing some kind of action or story ...
bod: i like the one you submitted. i thought the colors and technique were excellent. i think your pic would have done better if it were a juxtaposition of items that either told a story or were more conducive to having some sort of meaning 'read into' them. As it was, it was sort of random ... hope that is helpful.
Cheers Mag, yeah that backs up what I was thinking. I'm glad you think the technique was good, I guess the wow factor I got from doing a CD shot was lost on everyone else! Still, I'm not disappointed with my score - dpc is making me think about and try things in ways I would never have thought of otherwise, and that to me is the whole point of entering.
As for your outtakes, I like 'blue glass sun 3' and I really like 'chained' but I doubt either would have done better than your entry. I would have scored 'chained' higher but that's just my taste for minimal/simple images.

Thanks Mag, I wish I could remember why I didn't enter it. ;P Of the blue sun pics I like #2 best because you can see the gold. Composition wise I think Cooking with Light is best. Both would be good magazine shots. Sell'em.

Mag, that helps a lot. Your photo holds the viewer's attention for a lot longer and gives them something to think about.
aelith - that's the tin my 'Android' watch came in (the watch in my outtakes), a 'Screw Nut Tin Can' according to the website . I like the way the plastic lid refracts the light around itself and became determined to use it for the challenge!
I prolly should have submitted one of the blue glass sun ones.
What do you think?
Mags, really like the blue glass sun 3...dramatic mood and composition, excellent contrast, nice pop of color, interesting background...would have got a 9 from me!

For this particular challenge I think I like #19 a little better -- the side view of the glass out there in empty space emphasizes the single, direct light.

Gordon, I thought your entry was clever, as I commented, but I like this one on pbase even better. Why? I think there is something inherently pleasing about orbs and circles, and curves. Also the directional lighting is dramatic, and the contrast of textures adds interest. I like it enough to add it to my list of practice sessions. I do that a lot. I practice the techniques I see in images I like a lot. So there! That's how much I like it... :-)

I think the one you entered was the best choice. It was really great. #19 is a close second though, I like that one a lot. Transcend was a great shot though, one of my top 10 for lights. -inspzil
