AHHHGGGG!
I am so sick of the anti-gun propaganda. The weapon that was used in the serial killings in the DC area was once vilified as an "assault weapon" is now being called a "high-powered sniper rilfe, able blow a persons head off at 500 yards". This is complete and total BS. The .223 is not a high-powered rifle able to blow a persons head off at 500 yards, the killers were shooting from 100-200 yards away anyway.
The .223 is actually one of the lower powered rifle cartidges, and is considered inadequate for anything other than varmits, and small deer. Any good deer or elf rifle is capable of shooting a target from a few hundred yards, and some can accurately hit targets from 500 yards, with a compensating scope, but they are much larger in caliber than the killers weapon, and it takes a lot of shooting to be able to do it.
This idiot on Larry King was asking "what good are these guns? They can't be used for self-defense."
This is an interesting turn around, when it is handguns that are being discussed, the cry is, "what good are these guns, you can't hunt with them?"
Well, hunting is the purpose of guns that can kill from 200-500 yards. This is the range many deer, elk, and bear are taken from.
If this guy thinks a .223 is high-powered, he would probably have a complete breakdown if he knew what a .308, or .300 Winchester Magnum would do.
It is unfortunate that these people were killed, but how many died in car accidents over that period of time? Drowned? Died in home accidents?
Another thing that is never discussed, is the crime that is stopped by armed citizens. It is estimate that between 500,000 to over 3,000,000 crimes are stopped in the US every year by armed citizens. Did any of you know that two school shooting were stopped by armed citizens? One by two law school studentsthat ran to their cars and retrieved guns, and one by a school principal who did the same.
Of course, the increases in violent crime, and home break-ins in countries that have recently banned weapons in also not reported.
It is also not widely reported that these serial killers were stopped at checkpoints 7-8 times in the DC area, and released without being searched because they did not fit the racial profile the police had (they were not white).
Sorry for the rant, but the anti-gun crowed uses emotional propaganda to fuel fear. The truth in not as intuitive as the emotional reaction.
Anybody want to ask why gun registration would be an even bigger folly? |
