I want to photograph some beautiful fall colors this weekend and would like some suggestions as to where to go in the Puget Sound area. I've been doing a lot of driving around and never seem to find a great spot - evergreens don't turn colors! Thanks.
Try going up to Steven's Pass (or any of the mountain passes for that matter). About three quarters of the way up you should start seeing some great mountain sides with the blueberry bushes turning. You can also try going down to the Centralia area, more farm country, with lots of big maples. If your are more towards the north end, Skagit County is more farm country lowlands with quite a bit of leafy trees.
Hello Jo Ann. I live in Bellingham, Whatcom County. Driving around town and its country roads,I see quite a bit of fall colors. It's nothing as spectacular though as the colors on the East Coast.
I have been in Stanley Park, Vancouver BC, in the fall and there were lots of maples with the pleasant backdrop of the Vancouver skyline. Quite a bit more of a color effect than around here. I also read about some autumn scenic routes around the Vancouver area but I forgot where they were exactly :(
This is funny, I grew up in Centralia. There should be spots in the hills around there, also, the backway from Olyimpia or Tacoma into Centralia was some beautiful country.
I went to school in Bellingham. Chuckanut Drive should like nice this time of year.
You may want to take the ferry over to Port Angeles, you may be able to find some nice stuff in the rain forest.
Try calling some of the National Park offices too. Ansel Adams did some work in the Rainer National Park
