I'm looking for feedback on my overhauled site: DpPortfolio.com It allows you create portfolios and upload them in a number diffrent ways.
Please remember it's in it's beta phase.

I registered...I've yet to find the actual portfolio part of the site, though. When I click "Portfolios" in the menu it gives me a 404 not found:

What exactly is Postnuke? Went to visit the site quickly but still confuse on what it is...
It's a content management system... a website in a box... it has tons of built-in features that allow multiple folks to publish content. Lots of modules you can add like Forums, Galleries, Chat, etc... it's used to build online communities.

Bam's right, all you have to know/learn is a little about mySQL databases (keeps track of the changes to the website) and a tiny bit about php (a programming language used mostly on the internet).
May very well be what I was looking for. I see the software is free, do they require you to host on their site or it doesn't matter as long as your host company supports php?
It's Open Source... basically free to use as long as you leave in some credits. No one gets paid to work on the code, there is no company. It's collaboratively written.
Download it. Host it anywhere that supports PHP and MySQL. It's a little tricky to setup but not hard. Read the documentation, tehre's lots of it.
Geocide - your site banner (logo) appears to be tiling on my 17" monitor. I see "Dig" at the far right of the page.
same here, I have my resolution set to 1152 x 864
I was afraid of that. That's one of the hardest things to get right as a web designer, you never know what the view is view the webage on. Could be a 10" monitor or a 120" Projector. I'll work on that.

It's not actually the size of the monitor that matters, it's the screen resolution. You really should plan for every resoultion from 800x600 - 1600x1200... it's a pain... but not impossibe... there's some simple java that would forward the user to a different page based on their screen resolution... I used that for my personal blog... a lot of sites don't look good on 800x600 anymore (1024x768 really should be standard by now...) I try to make my sites look good for all the resolutions but it's a pain. The Java script for forwarding does make it a bit easier because you can make two different versions of the site and each person with whatever screen res they have sees teh right version taht fits their screen... Now there's other resolution like Widescreen ones... but those people are used to seeing webpages weird if they have their browser windows maximized... This really is the greatest challenge for the design part of a site... and testing for the various browsers, quite the pain.
Can you folks post a couple of links to decent intro materials on these programs for someone who knows basically how the web works but isn't a programmer?

Well, i have a webhosting service that pays for a large amount of bandwidth, so i plan to keep it free as long as it stays below my current bandwidth. After that i'll probally work somthing out that undercuts the other similar services.
