So what exactly would you need to take a good picture of the moon? It will be fairly high in the sky by the time the eclipse occurs here in TN so you'd need some sort of telescope. Does anyone have a good setup that isn't prohibitively expensive?
indigo, all you really need is a tripod ....it will be visible very well, but some telephoto power would be nice....
get out tomorrow night and take a few pratice shots of the moon so you can make adjustments for the night of the eclipse so your shots come out a lot better on eclipse night.
I plan on hooking up my sony 707 to my 80mm celestron (400mm focal length) spotter scope that will be sitting piggyback atop my 8" meade LX90 scope. Thats if the new piggyback mount comes in...if not I will put the 707 on the 8" scope and view through the spotter
The D60 will be on a tripod near by using just the 200mm zoom lens (may put the 2x teleconverter on also for 400mm)
just hope these clouds go away and this funky ground level haze we have here in the Houston area.
Mark, where are you planning to shoot it from? I think I read that it'll only be one solar diameter above the horizon here, so somewhere on ht eeast coast might be an idea - could be some specacular shots catchable over the sea ... though a friend lives near the south downs and thinks he has the perfect vantage point. A little early-morning mist would be perfect ... fingers crossed.

I am all set to chase this red eclipse if the weather cooperates. It does not look too promising right now in my area due to rain, rain, and more rain.
Does anyone know how to work out where a particular peice of sky is, so that I can try and calculate if there are some good shots through bridges or pylons to be had.

Indigo, you can go to Scopetronics.com and they have an adapter (Digi-T System for Canon G1 and G2* STDT10 $89.95) for your camera, plus you will probablly need the MAxView Eyepiece also.
Hopefully the weather clears up here enough. Its supposed to be partly cloudy and we have some funky haze here from some fires in Mexico, but today the haze is not as thick

I've been waiting for tonight and planned some nice shots to get the eclipse from cool places. Unfortunately, it looks like rain. Figures. I guess I'll try to go see the Matrix. :(
Damn storms!! Looked good all day and now they are rolling in at 30 minute countdown!! Had a perfect place to shoot, too!! Damn! Damn! Damn! Keepin my eyes open though.
well, it seems like its not going to rain here tonight afterall !!! Just my luck though, I cut my finger pretty badly on a soup can in the garbage and it hasn't stopped bleeding yet. ive been putting pressure on it for about an hour (and yes i am typing this with only my left hand). looks like i may be going to get stitched up instead of getting some nice pictures of the eclipse. :(
