I'm a newbie. I've only entered three challenges, and have learned quite a bit from all the threads and tutorials.
If you've read my profile you'll know that I started photography as a means to relieve my work related stress, and that I'm self taught. The tutorials, forums, and all of you have been textbooks. You should all be proud of your work.
I don't mean to insult anyone who reads this, after all beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I'm see a lot of SNAP SHOTS. To me photography is supposed to be art; and like most great pieces of art, the images are supoosed to evoke an emotion and leave a lasting impression. I've been voting 5's on a lot of images that don't evoke an emotion, but are in deed good snap shots. I don't leave very many comments because there are too many snap shots to comment on and I don't want to leave my neck out on the chopping block. I do, however, comment mostly on images that bring forth emotions, and have great composition.
Lately I've been reading a lot of threads from challengers complaining that they're not getting any comments, or that they're only receiving 5's. There's a reason!!!!!!!!!
I guess what I'm ranting about is that I'm not seeing a lot of ART. I submitted a photo this week of gargage, that was truly GARGABE. It should have gone into my scrap pile. I'm sorry that I wasted so many peoples time looking at such a horrible image, but at least a few of you got a good laugh...I accomplished my mission...I evoked laughter.
To all of you who I've pissed off...I'm sorry. But this is after all the RANT forum. Don't take it personal. Just sit back, relax, and think about why you got into photograpghy in the first place.
And not to single any one out, but i want to personally thank LISAE for her ART APPRECIATION threads and to those who take the time and effort to comment on composition, lighting , etc.
