That would certainly have contributed to the problem, yes. In most cases you can probably leave your ISO on auto (if your camera has that option) unless you have a specific need not to use auto. For example, on my camera, the auto will not set the ISO above 200. If I need ISO 400 (or, God forbid, 800), I have to set it manually.
