Swash, that is not a coot -- that is a rare Osteranius Biscuspidus, indigenous to the Amazon basin. There are very unstable, as birds go, and have been known to attack both small animals and humans.
This poor creature must have been caught in a Northerly jet stream, which brought it to your area.
Cool. Where were you when you took it? Standing still? On a hang glider? Levitating? ;-)
Actually, I got lots of bird shots this day. The wind was blowing really hard, which made all the birds fly just a little slower into the wind. I'm standing on the Huntington Beach, CA Pier. OK, standing is relative--I'm actually waving around like a maniac chasing the birds with my viewfinder trying to get the focus right before they flew out of the frame. It was quite a sight, I'll bet!

A few of these guys have been hanging around lately. With housing development so intense in the central valley, I guess they are running out of places to go. Years ago you couldn't get close to them, but it has changed somewhat now.
This post is to (1) show my Canada Goose photo taken yesterday and to (2) test the method for dislpaying a small image that links to the full size one.
