Currently there is a discussion going on in the Q & A section about John Setzler's train trestle photo in which he desaturated all channels but red. I'm sure this is done in PS but I can't seem to accomplish it.I have a photo I want to try this technique on. thanks. JoAnn
From the Image Menu choose "Adjustments", then select "Hue/Saturation". At the top you'll see a drop down that says "Master". Click there and choose a color channel. Drag the slider for saturation all the way to the left. Select another color from the drop down menu. Repeat until all colors you want desaturated have been.

What I do is I create two layers- the bottom one I desaturate (BW) the top one I get the colors as vivid as I want (or leave them). I then use Select-Color Range (PS) and sample from the picture the color I want to keep...use the slider to get 'more' or 'less' of it. Once the selection is made, I inverse it and delete (if you are getting hard edges try feathering the selection a bit). That will get rid of every color other than the one I selected. You can do more than one colored layer if you want to pick more colors, and repeat the process.

Thank you very much. I tried your method and it works. I am going to experiment some more with your method. I believe this would be an illegal DPChallenge entry though.
Hopefully images with desaturated colors will soon be recognized by everyone on this site as being legal. Right now it seems that most need an admin note.
