I used a digital version of B&W photographer trick to improve one of my images. I had a fairly boring color photo of San Xavier Del Bac Mission south of Tuscon. The sky was a not very attractive pale blue. I was thinking that the image would look great in BW, if shot with a red/orange filter to darken the sky.
Well, I decided to see if I could digitally replicate it. I used the Hue/Saturation control in Photoshop to darken the blue channel significantly. When converted, the bright building really stood out against the black sky.
Similar affects can also be used to darken or lighten foliage before converting to black and white.
I hope this is not redundant, I have not been in the forums much lately, as I am still just shooting my family.
