After trying out a few EXIF readers with my images (Canon ixus S330), I found that EXIF readers have a field called "MaxAperture" but not simply "Aperture". Is MaxAperture supposed to be the aperture value used by the camera for that particular shot?
Lenses have a maximum and minimum aperture, as well as the one that was actually used.
Usually lenses are described in terms of their focal length(or max min focal lengths for a zoom) and maximum (wide open) aperture( or apertures at max/ min focal lengths if that varies)
MaxAperture field is for the maximum wide open aperture value for the particular focal length used, and the Aperture field is the one that the used aperture would be placed in.
This is described on page 41 of the EXIF spec, where MaxAperture is the maximum lens aperture and Aperture is the used aperture.
I know, I just remember why I didn't go into engineering or math...I usually can get the concept but hate struggling with the details.
Any idea what an exposure time listed as 700/100 means? The format of the EXIF saved by Isaac's Fuji seems to be different from my Olympus. So much for standards...

That's what it reads like, but the only logical value given the result would be more like 1/70 sec. When I get home from work I'll copy out the data from one of his shots and post it for interpretation.
If you have time, maybe you could make a list of which values/abbreviations to look for...
Now that I've understood the meaning of aperture,
perhaps you can tell me which EXIF reader that tells
me the Aperture value for my photos? I think it might
have been the EXIF format that is used by my camera,
but then again it's a Canon so it shouldn't be so goofed.

General, Isaac's Fuji has EXIF 2.2 whereas yours most likely has an older version. Are you using an old reader? Try right-clicking on the photo in Explorer (if you're using Windows) select the Summary tab and then the Advanced button, and you'll get the EXIF data that way. The EXIF 2.2 works fine in the XP Home that I have, so you may want to try that.
Also, new cameras often have firmware bugs which are updated after the release so maybe check the Fuji website for updates. DPReview doesn't have anything listed and he usually posts updates, but check anyways.
James -- Thanks, I'll try that. I'm usually using IrfanView, but not the latest version. I can see the values, just haven't figured out what all the terms and abbreviations mean and how to interpret the displayed values. Supposedly I can copy the data to a text file, but it seems to be a line-by-line procedure, so I haven't done it yet...
