I was programming the fire frequencies in, and shortly after I started listening, a fire call came in that was about 4 miles up the road from me. At 3am, I decided to go make some photos in hopes that the newspaper would pick them up from me...
Being married to a cop, I have to listen to a radio constantly. We had a scanner in the bedroom - he thought I would like to know what was up while he was at work. After a really hairy incident one night I turned it off and it was never turned back on.
My sister-in-law is also a cop. My brother-in-law and stepson are firefighters. I just don't have the stomach for it anymore.
I listen to the San Diego one whenever the helicopters are hovering about.
Nice link. Now all I need to know is all these damn codes. I had a website once where you could select the county and state you were listening to and it gave you the codes. Anybody know where that website is?

So what kind of scanner did you get John? I've been kicking around getting one. Looking at the Uniden BC269D APCO 25 digital ready. But I could buy a nice Macro lens for what they're going for.

I bought the Radio Shack Pro-97. It was reasonably priced and it does what I need it to do.. the only drawback was that I had to buy the AC adapter extra.
I have one. Used to be on vol. fire dept. and was into that kind of thing, but now to busy except to figure what's happening in neighborhood or severe weather reports. I may use it to chase storms this summer, mine is portable. Listening to mobile telephone calls is entertaining though.
sofap and I have one we just updated (in fact I had to chk to be sure who started the thread) because we are doing a photo expose' for the police fire and emt's. We got our at Radio Shake as well, Pro 95 just 2 days ago to replace a 30 yr old one we had. The agencies are providing the codes we did not get through Radio Shack. I understand you can get the codes from their web site as well. There is also a book available at R S for those codes that are released.
