ur supposed to notice an improvement in the af accuracy especially with moving objects. it seems as though this improvement was one, or THE, major improvement given to the d70s, so if someone could say the firmware gives the d70s significantly better af performance, it might just undermine the d70s sales objective
Done...pretty straight forward. The menus are nice and clear now. Not sure what else I'll notice.
Directly from Nikon's update page:
Issues addressed with firmware version 2.0
1. Performance of the 5-area AF system has been improved (Dynamic area and Closest subject AF-area modes).
2. Changes have been made to the design of menu displays.
3. Page-size settings can now be applied from the camera with direct printing from a PictBridge-compatible printer.
4. The number of exposures remaining, displayed in the control panel and viewfinder, when shooting at an image-quality setting of NEF (RAW) or NEF+JPEG Basic has been changed (the number is calculated based on the size of compressed RAW file).
Maximum number of exposures displayed when a 256-MB CompactFlash memory card is used:
• Version 1.03 or earlier: NEF (RAW): approx. 23 exposures; NEF+JPEG Basic: approx. 21 exposures
5. The default setting for camera clock has been changed from 2004.01.01 to 2005.01.01. Now you cannot set the clock back to a date before 2004.12.31.
6. A problem that sometimes caused communication between the camera and computer to be unexpectedly terminated when using Nikon Capture Camera Control has been corrected. (Windows)
I don't know the answer to pawdrix's question, but I have one of my own (and it might be a really stupid/obvious answer sort of thing):
Do I have to get all previous firmware updates before this one if I don't know whether I have those ones or not? (bought the camera used and not sure whether it has been updated at the last instance or not)

Does it make sense that I have to shut off/on my camera each time I want to switch focal points, in the 5-area mode?
Or what am I doing wrong?
I don't think so. Mine swithches fine in either dynamic focus mode or single area mode after the upgrade. The only thing I can think of is maybe it has something to do with the lock switch. See if you have it set on L. If so that will prevent you from swithcing zones.

I believe you can go straight to version 2.0. It will include all past upgrades (which I think there was only one minor one).
I didn't have any of the previous updates on mine, and it worked like a charm.
Go for it girl!

Whoops - to late. I think I just filed a complaint about your post! I clicked the Report button instead of Reply and ignored the fact that it looked different. Sorry.
