ever get DQ'd for something you didnt do?

I just did and I'm just a little upset. I got DQ'd for spot editing that I know I sure didnt do. I guess the lighting cant just be good, I MUST have dodged and burned.

you did dodge and burn? that's spot editing, not allowed in basic eiting challenge.

There is a bit of a halo around the decaying tower, that would not happen if you just changed from color to B @ W....or at least I dont think it could.

Halo can apear when you do shadow&highlight adjust in PS CS and many other circumstancess that are applied to the whole image and I think is legal.

The root of the issue was that no such steps were specified, and the halo does not appear as one would expect from any of those tools (I tried them).

I am not saying you chEAted, but I downloaded your origional photo and played with it in photoshop and i could not duplicate your submission. Maybe if you gave the SC a little more to work with (IE, steps takem, etc.)

besides, i wouldnt go into the rant forum and bitch and moan if i deserved the DQ. it's funny because I'M having trouble duplicating it. I guess from now on i'll save it in photoshop format too, instead of just saving the original and the submission. lesson learned, i guess

yea do that! I always keep them all in a folder the original with exif the psd and different edited final jpg's.

i figured it out. here's what to do:

convert to greyscale
auto levels
unsharp mask (!) - amount 176%
- Radius 94.3 pixels
- threshold 28 levels
brightness -13
contrast +8
sharpen
crop

and you get what i submitted, or very damn colse

edit: even though it's obvious, i added the "crop" step

Well, I must say that I have an entry currently that was questionable. Mine too was suggested for validation, but I clearly listed all the steps I took when I submitted the original and the site council validated my photo in no time.

It's a shame that yours got DQ'd, but in reality, you can't be angry at the site council (believe me, they tried to duplicate your effects) -- just try to remember ALL the steps next time. I'm not trying to start an arguement here, and I'm on your side, believe me...just saying pay closer attention next time to your post-processing steps. Don't let it discourage you -- learn from it and keep shooting!
