Great in b&w, too, John! I guess if you desaturated all the channels except for Red, there would still be a red tint to her skin? (Just a thought without trying it out myself).

Funny you should ask that because I did try that first. If you look at the image, RED is about the only color present. Desaturating everything but RED really doesn't change the image very much :)
It did not leave the apple red by the time I got the skin in black and white... :(

The apple is plastic... I paid $1.99 for it at Michael's :)
I know we've talked about this in the chatroom but I have to say I prefer the full colour version you actually entered than the semi BW one. I love the match between her skin and the colour of the apple. It's so warm and inviting. :)
Oh Yeah, very artistic. Your model has a very lovely body. I was just reading another post a couple of days ago of some of the photographers who were applauding the young members of the group for their work. Once again the message has been sent to the children and teenage girls that you must have a perfect, beautiful body to be acceptable. It doesn't matter what you have to do to get it or keep it! Once you achieve it then you can use it to your advantage. This picture is not considered indecent but how about the next one the photographer asks you to pose for. Look at the beautiful baby pictures of your little girls---then tell me what message you want sent to them? You are a chubby 12 year old and dieting doesn't work--what next? You just naturally have that beautiful body at age 13--use it post for some "artistic" photographer and make money. The kids get this message 24/7 everywhere they turn. Thanks for adding to it. Please note that your photo didn't even rank in the non photographers voting. Is someone trying to send our artistic friends a message?
Ruth, I think you have issues. This isn't porn and he didn't pay the *model*. It's his girlfriend. Your comment is uncalled for. This is well done and presented and not that type of message to anyone. Get a camera and do some photography then come critique...how's that?
Ruth is entitled to her opinion :) I actually expected to get more like hers in my comments during the voting week. An image like this one can be offensive to many for different reasons, hers just being one of those.
I understand where Ruth is coming from, because I get really conflicted over some portrayals of the female body. I've never been a thin person, and when I was a teenager I used to starve myself to try and fit that media image of what I "should" have looked like. That's part of the reasoning behind my Candid submission - I get really tired of the way only some female bodies are supposed to appear in public and not others.
HOWEVER... as much as this is an important discussion, it has nothing to do with jmsetzler's photo. I don't see objectification here at all. There have been some far worse culprits on this site, many associated with the fine American establishment of "Hooters". Take your anger out on them! It's wasted here.
So Mr. Setzler, when are you gonna quit your day-time job?.....excellent photo. You're right, BW is even more striking. I suspect you favorite count is going to continue to climb endlessly, which is very well deserved!

Thanks for the compliment :) I don't forsee changing jobs until I can figure out how to successfully sell a print.. lol... I'm still buying lottery tickets also :)

Not saying people aren't entitled to their opinion. Just wanted to show another side to it.
....more seriously, I think the model is probably to do a job that one can manage in a "short" work week, then take as much time as possible on the side to shoot and possibly free-lance. We all know photography is not an easy profession and extremely competitive. As a hobby, maybe it's easier to keep the motivation up in the long-term?
My reaction is not anger, it is reality check! If this was a web site limited to only adults then that would be different. If I did not like the picture I would simply click off site and be gone. There is more than just technique, form etc.etc. to an art. There is the influence that art media creates in our society and when that can include children then this grandmother will stand up and speak out. I watched a segement of Date Line last night where Jamie Lee Curtis spoke of a story about her in a recent magazine. Sorry but I don't remember the name of it. Realizing the impact of models, photography and her profession she appeared in a shot of her underwear, without make up---just as she really is and then posed for a shot where she had been professionally prepared. As a mother and responsible adult she had come to realize the impact her and others have on our young girls and boys and the message that is constantly being communicated to them. Talk about somebody who deserves a ten! Stop and think--even in a Family Circle magazine that Mom brings home there will be photos for the latest diet supplement showing before and after shots. The majority of kids who see photo's don't even think about them being altered to make that person appear differently. I believe it is now a common pratice in some professional studio's who take portraits. Some of you are just amateurs and others worked in the profession you enjoy. What I ask is that you stop and think of the impact of what you do. It does not make a difference if it's a hobby or not--you have a responsibility to others and no one lives without impact upon others lives.
