Looks like comcast is having dns server problems again. Anyone else having this problem? I have to work offline to get to the site or know the ip address. That's the second time this week...laaaaaaaaame!
man maybe I should run adaware or something then because my computer must be dying or something. My girlfriend had the day off, I'm probably infect -- she was probably downloading mp3's for free or something stupid.
yeah, probably a good idea, never know what's going to pop up. My husband does that sometimes too, not his fault really, but I still run it occasionally just to be safe.
OK guys...I think something is going on with my computer.
AdAware found 58 things which it fixed. There are like 5 processes named "scvhost.exe" running in my Processes -- 3 SYSTEM, 1 LOCAL SERVICE and 1 NETWORK SERVICE.
There's a lot of goofy things in there. It's like my computer won't load any pages other than DPC and even that, I have to originally click WORK OFFLINE then click it again to get it going.
I have sygate personal firewall, and there is really no data incoming or outgoing...but I checked my security logs, and it said someone tried scanning my ports.

I tried backtracing that IP and apparently it just goes back to Comcast??? Any reason Comcast would scan my ports?
What exactly is someone trying to gain by scanning my ports? Any way of knowing what they found when they scanned my ports? Whether they got in or whatever?
I have no idea why Comcast would be scanning your ports, maybe somebody more technical could answer that? I work with computers but this kind of stuff I usually leave up to our PC group, it makes my mind go to mush. Maybe call Comcast? Okay, that would be my last resort, sorry it's late and I'm tired :)
OK...well, I restarted, shut down just about everything, tried IE, tried mozilla, only dpc will load for me.
This is getting frustrating -- I can't even check my email if I wanted to.
I re-scanned with adaware, nothing found. It won't update though.
If I click on like //www.ford.com in my browser, and monitor incoming/outgoing traffic through sygate, it just sits there and there's nothing going in or out. It just hangs up on "Finding site..." and nothing.
OK Well, I just got off the phone with Comcast. Apparently they're having a problem on the whole east coast with this.
Here I was blaming my poor innocent girlfriend and her mp3's. I told here I will drink more Mt. Dew to get her free songs on itunes. I got her 4 today!!! Everyone at work saves their free itunes caps for me.
mp3's are expensive...they always brag about how this or that mp3 player will hold 180,000 songs...well, what they don't tell you is that means it will take you ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY THOUSAND DOLLARS to fill it up!!!
Well, that's good to hear. I use comcast too and have been having a few problems this evening as well. About had a heart attack when I finished my abandoned building photo and went to submit it only to find a big ol' error message when trying to get on the site. Tried a couple more times and eventually it came up ... loaded it quickly and prayed when I hit the submit button... viola!
and it will work. You'll have to log back in, but it loads everything SUPER fast. I wish I realized that because in the time I was bored, I got a better crop/result for my abandoned entry.

I think some of the images are having trouble loading because it loads them like //www.dpchallenge.com -- so it has to get the IP from the domain or whatever each time. Whereas with just the IP, it just goes right to it.
It probably has to do with their DNS lookup servers (especially since IP addresses are working). I had this problem with them a month or two ago and I manually entered the IP addresses to Level 3 Comm's DNS servers the problem was resolved. I have since reverted back to the default Comcast settings and I do not remember what they were. Do a search and you should be able to find them.

lol...I'd do the search now, but there's no need. I'll try next time the DNS servers at comcast are down...and then I won't be able to. Kinda like the hole in the roof and the rain.
