OK, I am trying to get up to speed in a hurry with my new Sony F717. It's a huge leap from the old garage sale special, Kodak DX3900. Both of this weeks entries were taken with it the day after I got it but last night I was messing around with some low light shots.
Excellent focus. I love the lighting. I love this shot. Beautiful and nice picture to hang on your wall.
I love the little girls tongue. She looks as if to be really enjoying the book. Have fun with the camera.
Very nice photo. It has some very nice lighting with a great combination of contrast and softness.
Speaking of the F717. One of the features that yours has that I wish mine had is the auto everyting mode where it sets all of the controls for you and not just the exposure. not only is this great for when you suddenly hand your camera to someone else but this is alos great for when you absolutely have no time for double checking each setting on your own photos. Too many times when I have had my camera somebody has asked me to take a particular photo and I forgot to check the ISO or flash settings.
I think you will be very happy with the camera and it is clear that you are going to do very well with it.
This is a great shot, I would like to point out something that i noticed. The women seems to be less focused than the little girl-maybe play with depth of field. Also there is three different levels of lighting(the boy is brighter than the woman and the girl is brighter than the boy) and maybe you were trying for this affect wich is great, but i may have tried for more even lighting. I really like the lighting on this photo. How did you do it?
This was actually just a candid shot. I mostly wanted to see what the camera would do in the low-level light. The only light in the room was a reading light that was over my son's left shoulder. That is why the light is uneven and the focus as well. To properly set it up, I would have used a soft fill in from the front or some sort of a reflector. However, I don't think I could have ever got those expressions on the kids faces. Perhaps this is just a super-loving father speaking but those are what really makes the shot IMHO.
Tim, I agree with you on the fully auto setting. The best thing about it is that my wife, who could care less about Aperture or Shutter Speed (or even focus for that matter!) can take the camera and make really beautiful shots with very little problem. I am amazed how user friendly it is. I got a great deal on it and couldn't be happier so far. Still a lot of learning curve though.
