It does have some negative space in it, but I wouldn't say it is good use of negative space. There is not enough of it to make an impact, to me, and so I don't really think it would de well in *this weeks* challenge.
I actually liked the close, negative space Re-Crop the most and it was my original entry choice...BUT....I thought a close crop would detract from the Candid nature of the shot and look too graphic for most folks.
I went with a looser crop (the Portrait version) but I lost the "Eye Contact" part of my photo that I wanted to highlight so I went with a middle ground shot..my final entry.
I wiould encourage folks who are taking photos for this weeks negative space challenge to leave some room for you to crop.
If you take an aoriginal that is real tight you might limit your options. Or..better yet, take seveal versions of your photo at different distances if your camera has limited zoom or less resolution.
I wish more would read in the forums so they would understand more about the challenges. Hokie I think that your pic. is a good exsample to let people see. Maybe someone should put up 5 or more photos of different ways to show negative space. What do all of you think? I think it would sure help come voting time!
