I'm wanting to place an order at Photographer's Edge for some cards and things. Anyone in the Atlanta area want to get in on the order and get a lower price?
Interesting site and I am intrigued, but since I do not have the catalog hard to say what might pique my interest. I sent for a catalog, but it may take a bit to get here.
I sent for the catalog as well and received it pretty quickly, so once you get it let me know what you think! Their pricing is the same for all their cards, and they've got tons of styles. 1 set of cards contains 10 cards of a single style, and you can mix and match sets in an order.
Here's their price breakdown:
1 set: $11.20 ($1.12 per card)
5 sets: $51.00 ($1.02 per card)
10 sets: $92.00 ($ .92 per card)
etc.
The price goes all the way down to $ .66 per card if you order 100 sets but I think that would require a lot of photographers being in on the order :)
Just an update- received another catalog today with "get 11% off your first order, up to $25 off" on it. So a bulk order now would be even a little bit cheaper.
If anyone else sees this thread and has been receiving their catalog for a while, do they often have specials and stuff?
That is odd. I got mine from them pretty quickly, and now I'm getting them relatively regularly. Ah well. I'll go ahead and place an order on my own. Lemme know if/when you get it and I'll see if there's anything else I want or need.
When I first ordered from them I bought a bunch of different colored borders, white paper and cream, tall and verticle, some with sayings, some blank. Big mistake, in my opinion. I thought it would 'fun' to color coordinate everything. Let me tell you, it's a real pain. The next time I order I'm going to go with strictly one color paper (white or cream) and a simple black border or none at all. With so many different styles it was difficult to coordinate the colors. I would run out of one color and be 'stuck' with other colors that didn't match my pics. Also, I have a lot more landscape shots than I do portrait. Then you have to make sure you grab the right envelopes (cream/white) to go with the card. Putting the cards together is not hard, but it is time consuming by the time you choose the card, photo, fold them, sign them, and seal them in a plastic bag. Eliminating the card choices will make it faster to put them together.
Ordering on your own will be okay. I wound up paying $.82/card, I think, which isn't too bad. If you can get into a little store or something, you'll need a good variety of photo cards to display so you'll need a fairly large order. Gotta spend money to make money. Don't be afraid to do that. You'll sell them if you are persistent. There's also family and friends to buy them, too. :-)
Isn't there a few sites out there that will actually print the greeting cards with you image on them for about the same price. These ones where you insert your own picture seem a little cheesy.
Thanks for that Jen- that was my plan all along, to go with a few sets of plain horizontal and a few sets of plain vertical. I want the cards to be as multipurpose as possible :)
I was thinking of putting more effort into DPCP, but I really need to get the colors I'm seeing on my monitor to jive with the prints they're sending out. I ordered a print from them of one of my photos and was shocked at how garishly saturated it was- I damn near took down every print I have available, and I may still.
I believe they use EZPrints, the same printer SmugMug uses. I ordered calibration prints from Smug (same shot on 3 different types of paper) and they're beautiful. So it's just a matter of getting the colors right.
And nsbca7, I believe there are sites that will print the cards for you, but I prefer the idea of going with an actual photographic print. Though, if anyone tries out the pre-printed jobbies, please report back and let us know how the quality is.
Somehow I missed your reply! I did order 200 cards for myself, and I love 'em. I've used several already to send to friends and family ;)
I went with basics- 5 sets of white horizontal, 5 white vertical, same again for natural. So far so good. Though I actually have to look closely, the natural and white are pretty similar at first glance.
Now I just need to get organized enough to try to sell these things!
