Okay, this is last minute, but I sure hope I see some things from our California photographers. I used to live there, and I really want to see a huge field of poppies again! Alas, it may be a week or two too late for that. But if any of our CA photogs are going scuba diving or snorkeling today, I'd sure love to see a picture of a Garibaldi! I haven't seen one in years!
LOL! I feel the same way! Just this morning I was thinking.. "I don't care! I'm gonna photo every flower I see!" LOL
I went to Home Depot the other day just to see the flowers.. before it snowed on them again btw. As I was standing there, several others trickled in. I noticed they were not looking at the prices, or even touching them. I thought this was curious, so I spoke up (leave it to me! LOL) and said 'so, we are all feeling the same?' they looked up at me and I continued 'we are all just here to see some color?' WELL! They were all laughing and agreeing! No one was there to buy yet as the forecast was grim... but we just had to stop and look at it! It felt very alien and intangible!
Please look in my portfolio in the "Flowers" section. The first seven are new and all but the close-up of the wisteria were taken at the Dallas Arboretum this week at the annual "Dallas Blooms" display. There are mostly tulips, but there was one stand of electric poppies as you will see.
Don't be too envious of us in Dallas - it will soon be enduring months of 90 to 100+ degree days where everything wilts and the sun is awful for photograph.
Thanks for the heads up! I like all of your flower shots. you've got a special flair for effective DOF. I especially like the Pear Blossoms. I never get tired of good flower images!
If you really want to feel sorry for someone think of us poor souls out here in Phoenix.
I bought a Sony DSC-F717 and it clearly states on the box not to use it when the temperature is above 104 because it could damage the camera.
The average daily high temperature, which it rarely misses here is 105-106 for the entire months of June, July and August. The last half of May and the first part of September are above that to.
What am I supposed to do, store it in the freezer?
Karen, I've been at home depot as well . .but did not buy any thing or dod not do any shot. then on my way back home . ;I stopped to take shot of those you know floor of flowers that are in front of company buiding or apartment complex ...
so ... Karen and Ellen .....this is for you who seems to miss flowers .. I am not saying this is perfect .. but I was happy with it and hope you like it. Theu are not Orchids or roses .. they are .. just there and everybody is passing by them without looking at them.
Thanks chris, I thought about it, the one I submitted is very nice as wel but not doing so great , like 5.3 right now, I am disapointed .. maybe I picked the wrong one .. but anyway .. I am happy with both ....

You inspired me yesterday to go out and try to capture some shots of a wildflower that is blooming right now in Monterey County Ca. I think it is called Lupin.
There aren't many Ca. Poppies blooming in this area right now and I don't scuba dive so this is the best I could do:)

That's Lupine, from the same root as the word for wolf (by I can't remember why right now).
PLEASE drive over to Pacific Grove/Monterey harbor (if it's not far) and shoot the iceplant draping over the bayside rocks, usually just past the glass-bottom boat pier (you don't need to scuba to get underwater pics). I just saw a little patch of the same kind around here and it was in perfect bloom...

Hey Steve,
You can always get a small cooler with those freeze packets that don't leak and carry your camera around in it. If you take the camera out only for a short time to take the shot and then put it back in the cooler it probably won't damage it! That is probably what I will do this summer.-)
GeneralE, you inspired me to drive to Pacific Grove and shoot some photos. I had no idea how pretty it would be, thank you so much it was overwhelming and spiritual :)
