I'm going to rant, in short form, just for a minute...
1) Mike wants lens
2) Mike makes offer on almost-new Canon 70-200f/2.8 non-IS of $870USD
3) Seller says...no, I'm sure I can get more for it
4) Mike says "hehe..i'm sure you can too. you should be able to get 950 or 1000, just thought I'd try"
5) Seller says "haven't heard back from other guys yet...if it's still here at the end of the day you've got it."
6) Mike gets hopes up, but realizes it likely won't happen
7) At end of day, sell says "It's yours for $870 + shipping"
8) Mike says "cool!"
9) Note: Mike is in Canada, seller is in USA
10) Mike sends money and says "please send USPS to avoid crazy brokerage fees"
11) Seller says "UPS will cost $16"
12) Mike says "no no no, please send USPS"
13) Seller says "i don't feel like going to the post office" and refunds money.
14) crap.
15) Mike emails back and says "slow down, let's figure something out"
16) Mike finds out that UPS Express won't result in crazy brokerage and emails seller again and says "UPS Express will work, but not UPS Ground...let me know"
17) Mike waits by his email.
18) and waits...
19) (mike thinks seller had "seller's remorse" and weaseled out, perhaps)

25) seller emails mike and says "sorry, i sold it to someone else...no hard feelings"
26) mike shakes his head in wonder, but realizes this lens just wasn't meant for him.
27) mike types out the rest of his story on dpchallenge
28) mike eats salt&vinegar crispers with milk
29) tbd, but i presume that mike experiences gut rot from above meal.
Is this true?!? I too love salt and vinegar chips with milk!
