I will be spending next week in the tiny town of Dendron, Virginia, population maybe 201 when I'm in town. I won't have an update button to keep me occupied so I was hoping you all might be able to provide some locations to check out. I have 4 days of out and about shooting time. So far I have decided:
1 day of swamps - blackwater, dismal, any other I can find
1 day of plantations and Williamsburg
Anyone have any alternate ideas? Dendron is about 1 hour from Richmond, 1 hour from Virginia Beach, and 1/2 hour from Williamsburg.
smithfield has got a great americana-styled main street, as well as an incredible collection of victorian architecture. great place to spend a morning or afternoon.

Hung out a lot in Smithfield - love the antique shops. There are 2 houses there I would give my right arm for - I have a tripod!
I'll be there Monday through Friday next week. Thought about the seminar in Richmond but I tend to sleep in class. Up for meeting up otherwise. Never been to Richmond other than on 95...
I assume you'll take the ferry at Surry, there's always some shots there. While in Williamsburg don't forget William and Mary, there might be something going on there.
If you're up to it, the area has some of the most incredible sunrise photo ops when you're by the water in the early morning. I worked the nightshift in Surry for months, and saw some of the most breathtaking sunrises on my way home in the mornings.
There's also plenty of opportunities for architectural stuff in the area, especially churches in the Portsmouth/Chesapeake area.
