I like your crop. The first thing I focused on when I saw your photo was your remarkable capture of the bird in flight. I like how the crop draws attention to that part of the photo. I only hope you still have enough resolution at such a tight crop to still make a good print :)

Thanks. With that crop I can get a 6x4 @ 150 dpi and with a 125% resize, an 8x6. That's a pretty severe crop, though.
I actually like them both but I prefer the wider crop better. It is easy to want to focus on the bird frozen in the air because it is such a nice cpature but I feel that the first photo tells the story better. It reveals more of the evironment which, to me, completes the scene and makes it more interesting. On a side note. I feel that the photos could use a little more 'punch' with level or curves adjutments and a little more sharpening. Sorry, I have such a tendancy to go into 'critique' mode. The ironic part for me is that I was taking some very similar type photos this last weekend and last night I was going through the very same thought process regarding my cropping.

Another thought I had is too make a wide crop from the first image by cropping off the top portion of the feeder and leaving the lower half showing all three birds. That way feeder is clearly visible but not a dominating element in the picture.
I played around with cropping your photo a bit and I actually like it better the original way. If anything, you can cut a bit off the bottom, but I think it looks better to leave all three birds as well as the entire feeder in the photo. I do agree with timj's suggestion about the level adjustments though.
