Has anyone on DPC tried Canon 10D. I have heard that its a nice gem. But would be great if someone here can share his/ her personal experience with me as I am planning to buy this one.
It would be great if someone can also clear my confusion that whether I should buy a Film SLR or Digital SLR.
I've had the 10D for about a week or so, and love it so far. Takes some getting used to from my S40, and even from my EOS IIe. Canon tools need to be worked on a little. (For instance, there's a bug in the RAW linear conversion process, but this is a problem with the PC software, not the camera.)
As SharQ said, if you can afford it, and think you might want it, get it. It is a fabulous camera.
with the D60, I found that breezebrowser was a much better option for RAW conversion - it uses the same underlying libraries as the canon RAW tools, but gives a much more functional front end. Other options are YARCPlus which has different pros and cons and the Adobe Photoshop RAW convertor, which is currently expensive ($99)
Certainly the canon software is the bottom of the pile in terms of usefulness
I agree Gordon. I use Breeze with my S40, and now with my 10D. Unfortunately, the bug I refered to is in the libraries themselves, so the RAW linear conversion bug is in Breeze, too. I hope they get it fixed soon, cause my workflow is a mess right now!

Got the 10D .. love it
got the 28-135 IS , a nice lens and you can live with that one for some time except f you are a wide angle shooter .( with the crop factor that makes it a 50-200)
I like the cam and I like the lens !
I got a 50mm1.8 .. did not really use it yet for for 70$ .. why not . might help in low light.

the af seems pretty good in low light. but also variable.. ive seen it hunt in low light and other times just snap in. also, , if desired, in certain modes it will use short strobe bursts as a focus illumination lamp. In that situation, it always locks focus very fast, in fact, dpreview measured that it is always 1.7 sec, no matter how dark, when it uses that mode.

Does it use a white strobe ? I find that pretty annoying/ intrusive on the D60. The near infrared focus assist on the 420EX speedlite helps a lot - I believe the other hot-shoe flashes provide similar focus assist - the ST2 IR trigger can be used as well for focus assist
