Hey folks, was just given a couple of book here at work. So far I've only looked through one, but thought I'd recommend it based on my initial thumb through. Here's a link for it at Amazon.
National Geographic Photography Field Guide: Secrets to Making Great Pictures
It looks like they have a series of photo books along this line -- I don't know if they're pieces of this one (it has sections on landscapes and people and digital and film), or if they go into greater detail.
This is about the highest praise I can give: I'm considering buying a copy for my own library. *grin*
