I am looking for any suggestions for some backgound music for my Son's "retrospective" video I am making for his bar mitzvah.
He is into acting and he dressed up and danced while growing to the ripe old age of 13. So I have lots of cute moments of him I am going to show video for, and I'm looking for appropriate songs or even funny songs for the background music. (The video soundtrack itself won't be played.)
This is always tough (I've had to do this for my daughters bat mitzvah, and for crew club videos). I only found one site so far that lets me search lyrics. But of course, I don't want some of the kinds of music out there--particularly not RAP. And the song has to be generally one of positive character.
Any suggestions? There's probably about 3 segments--about 10-15 minutes, including the stills I'll stick in.
For my daughter's video, three years ago, I used "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None the Richer, and a Beatles song, "Got to get you into my life", and a few fragments from Charlie Brown.
Try Ben Harper he has some good low key stuff. "Diamond on the inside" Comes to mind right off. May want to check the lyrics though. How long do you have to put this together?

Thanks again. I liked the Ben Harper stuff--but it didn't match. I probably should have excluded country from the songs too--we're not much of a country music family. (But there are certainly cross-over's we like.)
But the Toby Keith gave me an idea, or at least one possibility. "I'm so happy, I can't stop crying". I recognized that one, but I am more familiar with Sting's version. I have to check out all the words to that one.

So far, green day is a really good candidate for one of the videos. But while looking for "Time of your life" (which on iTunes took some looking for, it's called "Good Riddance (Time of your life), I found a bunch of neat songs called something like "Time of your life". Randy Newman has a really good one.

Opps forgot my other favorite slide show music that 2 songs will take you 10-15 minutes...
The Cure ("Mixed-Up" album as all are extended re-mixes 7 minutes or better each song)
"Pictures of You" (the one you've heard on the HP commercial) "Lullaby" is a good beat, or "A Forest" or "Fascination Street" all have a heavy Bass riff that is great for switching slides on.
There is a wonderful song by Stephen Curtis Chapman that I think about my kids whenever I hear it. It's called "I Can See the Fingerprints of God" (It might just be "Fingerprints of God")
The refrain:

-Just kidding. Since there will be a lot of kids there, I like the suggestion for Green Day - Good Riddance. Just some nice subtle undertones there, nothing fancy, yet the kids will think it's cool.
