My home PC died,most likely the motherboard ,some chip burned because cooling fan was not working.
All photos taken in last 2 months are in the hard drive and don't know if I can recover them.
As long as your hard drive didn't get fried you are fine. If it was your processor fan then I would guess a new processor and fan is in order hard rive should be fine.
Edit: Never skimp on a cooling fan when it comes to price. You will need a good quality fan to keep evertything cool
Like James said, you should be fine Kosta, if it was the motherboard. If you do have problems accessing the drive when your PC is fix, let me know. We have some pretty good recovery software that might be able to get at the data. I doubt you'll need that though.
I've spent a bit of this morning doing some damage control here myself.
Had my PC running Norton Speed Disc overnight on all 4 of my drives (2 HD's, each with 2 partitions).
Something happened to one of the drives in the process and have not been able to fix the FAT on it. I was able to use DOS to boot up and copy files to a different drive. (took a bit of memory jogging to remember how to use DOS again, changing directories, dir and copy commands)
At any rate, the files were recoverable, even though Winodws could not get to them, nor could Norton fix the drive/FAT.
Now to figure out why I can't format that partition (hits 69% and runs into insufficient memory error) and quits. Maybe time to delete the partition and start it over. The format with mbr switch didn't work either.
This problem (Kosta's that is) sounds like could also be the power supply. If it is, you may not be out of the woods with regard to the hard drive. Of all the things in the modern PC likely to die an early, ugly death, the power supply is at the top of the list.

Ran WD's utilities and came up with error code 0225:
Too many errors found - please contact technical support. (error count reached a threshold value. There are too many errors detected on this drive to be repaired. Replace the drive)
At least I got all the files off of the partition I wanted to keep through DOS. So much for that 40GB WD400BB Caviar!

Ah, there's your problem Brad. The Caviar is supposed to go on the toast, not the HD.
In my PC technical expertise, I failed to remember that DOS and Windows DO NOT name their drives the same.
In Windows, HD#1 drive letters were C & D, HD#2 drive letters were E & F. In DOS, HD#1 drive letters are C & E, and HD#2 drive letters are D & F.
Well, needless to say in trying to fix/format one drive, I wiped a different drive. May be a while before I really find out how much I lost, vs. how much I have copies of on CD.
I thought mine died today its on the way... I had this pc for 8 months and had to have it repaired. A power supply, fan is apart of it. Today I turned on my pc and started to do the same stuff making a funny noise... I am considering replacing this thing myself accept go somewhere else and buy a better brand...
Maybe all your photos will be there still, perhaps its something minor? Hope you get it worked out..
