I was wondering, how do you go about taking infra-red pictures? Is it entirely dependent on the camera? If so, can mine do it? = P (Canon S-30) Thanks

(added) I found something about using filters, I should add that I have an adapter that accepts 37 mm filters...

If your camera can do it then yes you need a filter. The one that most digital users (including myself) seem to go for is the Hoya R72.

A quick test you can do is to point a remote control down your lens and push the buttons. If you see a bright blu-ish light on the LCD then you should be okay.

Mav, you can test your camera if you have a tv or vcr etc remote control. Many of these emitt infared light. Shine the remote into your lens and if you see a white light your camera will photograph at least near infared light. I suggest a HOYA R72 filter which is not totally true infared but it is close. Have fun. BTW, there is not much infared light at night.
