The day after the London GTG, Chiqui74 and myself went on a daytrip to Salisbury, to see the cathedral and the town, and took a busride over to Stonehenge while we were down there. Unusually for the UK it didn't rain (but it was freezing cold and windy), and we got some great shots:
Stonehenge is one of those places where you expect something massive in middle of nowhere, but up close it seemed quite small, and the roads going past so close didn't add anything to the atmosphere... but it was still pretty impressive, and I'm glad I went. Salisbury Cathedral was equally impressive, even if we did have to wait for one of the services to finish before we could start shooting. I'd definitely recommend that anyone visiting the UK with a day to spare to consider heading out to both of them.
And yes, I know I'm posting this a week after we went, but it took me that long to process the hundreds of GTG shots before I could get to all of these :o)
Wow som great photos there. I especially like the wide angle ones Chiqui took. Can I ask you Chiqui - what lens were you using there? I've been after a nice wide angle for some time and it looks like you have a 10mm.
It's the Canon EFS 10-22mm, which I borrowed from her on a number of occasions :o) It's a pretty sweet lens, covering the 16-35mm equivalent range, but it'll only fit the few Canon DSLRs that support EFS. I guess it's always advantageous to go shooting with someone you can swap glass with ;o)
I travel to Cornwall from London two or three times a year, passing Stonehenge on the way. I have yet to pass the place when the light is right to get the images I want.
I think your collection of photographs are great. Salisbury is a very beautiful City and you have managed to capture its beauty very well. Thanks for sharing the images.
Beautiful shots, you guys! I'm fascinated with Stonehenge and love seeing shots of it. I spent time in London and Windsor but never made it out to Stonehenge. Thanks for sharing!
Bumping this because I really enjoyed looking through both albums. Stonehenge is high on my list to go visit because Izzy will kick my a** if I don't eventually take her : )
Stonehenge is a tourist magnet for visitors to UK, and worth a visit. But, the best place to visit is Avebury in Wiltshire.
It has the largest stone circle in Europe and plenty else to check out around it. I visit there a few time each year and if anyone wants to go there in summer, you will find crop circles as well.
