Came across these pictures in another one of my favorite photography sites(gotta love the combination of photography and aviation), and thought I'd share.
I was just there in January and saw the airport strip so close to the beach. Unfortunately a plane never landed while I was in the are or I would have loved to get a shot like that!
Yup, I'm the proud photographer of this shot. We went there in December and realized (only after landing) how truly close the approach is to the people on the beach. Later in the week, we spent an afternoon watching the big dogs land. St Maarten is the Dutch side, St Martin is the French side. The only island with 2 separate nations in the world. The vacation was spectacular; highly recommend it. Just close your eyes on the final approach.
Hmmm both images look doctored to me... a little photoshop maybe??
I can send you my original with the EXIF file attached as proof. I admit, if I hadn't seen it myself, I would doubt the validity as well.
There is a sign on the fence to the photo's right that warned of hazardous jet-blast winds. The "brave" souls on the beach were pelted with a sand storm with every flight overhead.
Oh the shot is real!!! It's comon to get a photo opportunity at St. Maarten .... Check out Maxim Magazine June 2004 pg 48 - for those of you who just can't get rid of back issues!!! They just aren't as good!! :P
