No, not photography - just trying to keep my husband from exploding!
My husband is taking an ACAD 3D class, and is having difficulty with one of the drawings where it wants him to create a "section" that is "offset", is you get what I am saying. He can create a straight vertical section, but this wants a straight vertical section for about 1/3 of the drawing then the section is supposed to show part of the drawing that is to the left about 1/3 the width of the drawing, then continues straight from there, so that it is, in effect, offset.
He cannot figure this out and is going nuts, so any help appreciated! You can PM me if you would rather!!!
No, that doesn't look like what he is doing. I did a VERY quick drawing showing kind of what the object looks like, and the section that it is asking for. We had already looked at the Sections tutorial at the website you linked to, but it was no help in this particular situation.

Original part is square to speed up the replication process on my end.
Create a new solid that looks similar to the one I have drawn here.

Notice that the new part is thicker.
Goto Modify - Solids Editing - and choose Subtract. Select the original first and hit enter, then select the new part and hit enter. This should subtract the new part, leaving only the piece of the original part not inside the new part. Change view to Front and you should see what you were required to create. You can then shade or render.
Another possibility would be to create 3 squares as solids and subtract each one.
