this is really nothing important but here i go telling it anyways.. i dont usually post on the forums a lot and i dont create photography all the time that i feel good enough to post on the individual discussion forum. but every once in a while i get inspired and i put myself on superdrive. and i would like critiques on those pieces as i go and i dont create all of them at once and if i post all of them in a single forum entry than none of them get the attention they deserve. and i dont see anyhting wrong to post 4-5 different posts every once in a while about same subject rendered differently.. am i wrong? if you think i am wrong than i will subdue
i just realized that my posts in individual discussion forum have been locked. and i find that to be offensive to my intellect. i would like to be able to seperate my pictures as the way i see fit. especially when i pay for membership. these are unnecessary measures. i am not happy with it. i demand for those posts to be unlocked. i dont think i am spamming anything to deserve such treatment...
as long as you post the variations as a "reply" to the original thread, it brings it back up to the top of the heap and the new pix will be seen. We can only see so many threads on the main page at once; if 3 of the more recent threads are all yours, and all related to the same topic/image, this robs other threads of front-page space and they get neglected.
This is the reasoning behind juggle's request.
Go ahead and take those images and append them as replies to your original thread and it's all good.
Robt.
addendum: this is a universal point of etiquette in all forums I have aprticipated in; you are not being singled out.
i dont wish to do it that way. than posts get too long and noone can track it or wants to track it. i dont see why i can not post 10-15 threads as i wish every other month like i usually do.. in photo.net every critique request gets its own forum entry . they seem to manage it just fine...
While I understand that posting to multiple threads could generate more comments, it also means that you're pushing many other threads off the home page, thereby robbing others of feedback. You're not the only one who pays a membership fee. If you'd like more feedback, just bump the existing thread and ask for it.
Go to your "home page" and scroll down; see that only the most recently-commented threads are visible. If three of them are started by you, that's a large percentage of the threads. If those three all relate to the same set of images, it's considered a breach of etiquette, like hogging the shrimp at a buffet. I'm sure you didn't mean it that way, but that's how it works.
Perhaps a bigger issue: are forum threads really a good mechanism to discuss images? I've never found them to be, partly because (although they call it threadjacking to some extent), others images are soon appended and you may or may not get yours discussed.
What I am saying is that maybe we need to try and get another mechanism in place for that? Like a special shared portfolio for images, with separate discussion area appended to each?
Just thinking out loud. Maybe you have some ideas on this?
I agree in a way. i was hoping to get a Nude modeling session in today (she had childcare issues...DAMN!!), and would probably started a thread for feedback on one or two of them. It seems if you post more than 3 pics in a thread, help goes downhill some. If they are a different series I see no problem with a different thread, but I do hate seeing recurring threads on the same subject, over and over.
Take the good with the bad I guess.
i generally only post images every once in a while and i like to seperate it into different threads if there are more than 3 images. i didnt think i bothered anybody. sorry i was selfish by pushing other people's threads off the main page. never thought of it that way. i guess i should restrain myself...
Mehmet,
I understand that you'd like each of your efforts to get full consideration by being given their own threads.
Let me propose a way that you may do so without overloading the "front page". Simply post each one a couple days apart. This will actually benefit each of you threads, they will get more attention than if they were competing with each other.
I love looking at you photos and think the way you've been posting them is fine. And I agree with Kirbic on his suggestion "Simply post each one a couple days apart"
I think each and every photo you post this way will get the attention they deserve.
When I open a thread, and it is a request for a critique or comments on a picture, I might respond (depending on time, etc.). If I then open a thread near it and it is the same photog posting the same subject, I won't. Period.
Granted, when you post two or three pictures of the same subject in the same thread, it becomes more of a comparision of the three, but they are still being commented on.
AND, I think it is just easier to follow and is "neater" to post like things together.
Riggs, I 'm sorry you feel that way. We try to keep the forums as user friendly for everyone. We have a duplicate thread/post rule for a reason. Most people don't like reading the same thing eighty-eleven times when once is enough.

I agree, the forum is monitored and policed a bit too zealously here at DPC.
Users already have some tools to monitor the forum on their own and, too, of finding and managing specific threads. For example, if the number of recent threads on the homepage is a concern to a user, well, then, just increase the number of active threads on one's homepage -- I've set mine to 30. Also, I can ignore threads, or watch threads, etc. Therefore, I don't see why all the recent forum policing is necessary.
Now, I understand that DPC is focused on providing a sense of community -- which is great; however, as a paying member, that is, as a customer/consumer, I'd rather have the energy and resources that are spent on policing, be directed towards developing additional web site features and solutions (i.e., faster implementation of the requests posted in the "Web Site Suggestions" forum).
Here's the point, a customer has voiced a dissatisfaction with the service he's received, and rather than offering a service oriented solution, the customer has been told (in so many words), "Tough luck, your business is not important to us." As some have already suggested, perhaps the current mechanism (in this case a photo critique thread) is not sufficient, and so it's time to develop some technological solution. For example, rather than posting all active threads on the homepage in the same bin, the active threads can be broken into 3 or more separate bins (ex., Individual Photo Critique, DPC Meet Ups, Rant, etc.) so that users can more easily navigate to and manage active threads (users could even customize which forums they'd like to be displayed on their homepage). Here's an illustration of what I mean (please keep in mind that this is meant as a constructive suggestion, and that the goal of the DPC managers ought to be developing solutions that lead to "customer satisfaction" -- i.e., recurring customers/subscribers):

Well, not exactly. The solution that I proposed and which Mehmet graciously accepted requires no additional coding, and actually should enhance the response to his posts. Personally I really like his art, and I certainly hope he keep sharing it with us.
I personally agree that immediately locking the other threads might have been a might heavy-handed (again, personal opinion only!) but I'll note that the topic had been discussed in the past on many occasions, and the "multiple vs. single thread" issue had been brought to theodor38's attention.
I like your idea of enhancing the display of forum threads; I can envision that something like you propose could be done by "tabbing" the forums. Click on a tab to go to that forum. Would make navigation a lot easier.
I like it when people give as many comments as they receive.
Hey Jacko - I think you're about a thousand short :P.
Admittedly it's a little harder to keep up when half your entries win ribbons and get 50 comments, I, on the other hand, am confronted by the arduous task of making 15 comments a challenge to keep my ledger in the black :).
