I use Thunderbird. You can import All your settings and Mail pretty easily (Tools/Import)
I tried Thunderbird on one of my machines and was very happy with it. I have been considering replacing Eudora on my main machine with Thunderbird as well. I just have to take the time to do it.
open a new mail and select the VIEW drop down menu, then make sure the FROM FIELD is ticked.
You will then be able to selct from which acc the message is sent from.
You need a secratary...3000 emails at 2G is going to take up that much space no matter what e-mail client you use as all the POP/SMTP mail clients store it on your disk. It's the attachments that are killing you, delete sent items (especially with attachments as you are already storing the sent attachment somewhere else on the disk).
I use Outlook myself...anyone know if the Compact Function is available in Outlook Express? The compact funtion is the first step in Outlook to speed up the mail performance.

In Outlook Express when i press new message, my default account email is entered, and if I don't want that it shows my others in a drop down box.
With outlook (2000) I create a new email and there is nothing - no default email etc. So i have to go into my address book which holds around 300 people and find myself every time.

This is the correct way to do what you are looking for in Outlook, Jon. You only have to do this once. Every NEW message from that point forward will have the From field where you can enter or choose which account to send from.
Also the place to turn on the BCC: field as well.
ED: Wow your quick...I will be at work in an hour if you are still having probs I have Outlook 2000 client there and see if I can figure what you might have missed.
In Outlook you can't change the sender if you use Word as your editor. Turn off the "use word as editor" feature and you'll find that your "send" button has a down arrow you can click for a list of senders.
With respect to managing large chunks of e-mail, I use Outlook at work (corporate standard) and my received + sent comes to about 700MB to 1GB per year. Each February, I create a PST file on my local machine, this year it will be called "Archive 2005". After 6-8 weeks, I move all received and sent to this local PST file. That leaves around 100MB in my active PST file. If I need something from further back, only then do I open the other PST. I never use Outlook's "archive" feature, I don't like it. I like having separate PSTs that are clearly labeled, can be backed up via my normal backup program, and if required, opened on another PC.
At home, I don't have nearly the same "volume" issues, nor is access to very old e-mail so critical, so we are just using OE there.

I have tried...i cannot get teh messages in. Perhaps i have too many? I use Firefox and want to use TBird too. (currently use Outlook)
I finally got around to moving over to Thunderbird from Eudora today and it did a great job Importing all my messages from Eudora. They all went into a seperate of folder under "Local Files" but all my messages are there. It even configured all three of my accounts I had setup in Eudora.
The best part...it's already filtering out the SPAM!!
