My wife's uncle was amazed when I told him that my camera was 6.3 MP. He'd just bought an HP P&S for his wife at Radio Shack. The guy there told him digital cameras only go to 5 MP.
What I see more and more is people buying advanced digital cameras because they can afford to but then have absolutely no clue how to use it. This rich guy that I was sailing with brought his new Minolta A2 and then asked me if I could check out his settings and make sure it was set correctly so he could just use it in full auto mode. Nothing wrong with that, I guess, I just find it a amussing that they spend $1000 plus on their camera and gear and then can't take a little bit of time to study their camera manual to, at least, know the basics.
Reminds me of by boss, who bought a $600 Sony pda...When he told me about it he said it was handy because he could store all of his addresses and even take pictures with it!
He was so excited I didn't have the heart to tell him that the entry level Palm did that for about 20% of the price!
i get a blank look from people when I tell them its a digital camera, unless they specifically as me if is a d60 or a 10D, then I know the conversation will go good.
I was at a party for a frieds kid and I was taking some pics and one of the parents there ask me which camera I had, I said the D60, she said Oh I have 10D, Then I thought cool this conversation will go ok. But then she said all of her pictures looked like crap, and that she went from a canon G3 to the 10D because she thought it was a better camera, and said her G3 Pics were WAY better than the 10D.
I asked her what ISO and settings she was using and this is where I got the famous dear in the head lights look. I told her as a suggestion to read the owners manual. NOT insult her I pulled my owners manual out of my camera bag and said I keep mine with me all the time incase I need to look something up in the book.
She then told me she is to busy to read the book and she is not good with technical jargan.
A few minutes later she said she was going to take it back and keep her G3.
