So this is off topic (and may belong in the 'Rant' section) but I played my first game of poker last night ($10 in) with some friends and I got 2nd out of 7.
When it was just down to my friend and I we both cashed in our original $10 and played with the extra $30 left on the table (another girl cashed out with $20 earlier)...but he eventually took it.
Yeah, it was definitely a conservative start...not many "all in's" until someone was down to their last dollar or two!
A couple of newbie's there (like myself), but next time it's all out war!
...not to mention those distracting down-to-the-wire wildcard games (NFL)! It seemed every other hand we'd tell the girl in front of the TV to duck so we could watch the play!
...but I did learn something about the laws of our home...apparently, if I don't come home until after 3 am, I'm supposed to call my wife so she doesn't worry!
I usually play with 20+ people. We end in 2-3 hours then the late nighters play again. 7 people and you played that late. You should have been doing alot of bluffing cause it sounds like there was alot of folding.
Have fun, its addicting once you get the hang of it.
Yeah, I was really conservative because I'd never played before...I had to have a cheat sheet on what hand beat what (even, then I had to ask what a flush was).
I'm usually not this much of an uninformed geek, but I guess I just never got into cards when I was growing up!
Watch the dealers thumb and make sure it is always grabbing a card, not sliding over it. It takes some true skill to be able to do it without anyone noticing.
how very strange...just last night a friend was telling me how he won a couple hundred bucks in this game yesterday--and i had never even heard of it. he had to tell me the name like 5 times before i even understood what he was saying! and today it's in the forums and i see that the whole world knows of it but me. :) my friend did try to explain the game to me--and it does sound fun. i love cards, spades being my very favorite--but this game sounds pretty cool too.

It's funny how popular it has gotten recently...I was playing this online several years ago and the tables were hardly ever full. Now everybody is playing it.
